Stamford Sights & Secrets Tour

The Stamford Sights and Secrets Tour on
Wednesday 4th September 2019

The History group had a delightful 90 minutes of Stamfords wealth of Sights and Secrets which the title aptly suggests.
We were not disappointed with this walk provided by our lovely guides Ruth and Rachel. Starting point, and finishing was the Arts Centre. Our guides pointed out plaques and symbols on the array of historical buildings, told us their meanings.
These are homes, and businesses up to the present day. Gave us interesting facts of the past property owners.
We were treated to a feast for the eyes of wonderful architecture to drink in. Especially looking down Barn Hill.
As you stood on cobbled roads, and among gothic, Georgian facades you could see why Stamford has been the ideal backdrop for period drama’s. Understand how the late Colin Dexter got his inspiration for Morse stories. Stamford has it all, church’s, pubs, and history. Informative and pleasant experience on Wednesday 4th September morning.
I have to thank Lilian for suggesting we lunch at The Exchange, that was good venue to spend time after the walk. Thank you to all who joined me to explore lovely Stamford.
